Schibsted Trykk AS is one of Scandinavia's largest newspaper and advertising printing houses and was established as an independent company in October 1995. The 13 ½ acre site at Nydalen in Oslo was bought that year. Construction work started in the autumn of 1996. After half a year of testing equipment and of training staff, production started on 12 October 1998. By 26 June 1999, the production of all newspaper editions had been transferred to the Nydalen plant. On that date, all operations at the old printing plant at Linderud ceased, and the building was sold with its fixtures and fittings. The reasons for building a new production plant were:
- the increasing requirements for colour and insert options
- the limited possibilities of meeting these requirements by expanding the production plant at Linderud
- to keep Aftenposten and VG competitive
The Nydalen building has total floor space of 45,000 sq. m. and contains two printing press halls, a mail room, a paper warehouse and a loading area, as well as administration offices, staff rooms and plant rooms. The maximum length of the building is 194 metres, whilst the maximum height is 23 metres.
Schibsted Trykk has approx. 220 employees. The production departments work in shifts on all weekdays.
Media Norge ASA owns 60 % and Verdens Gang AS owns 40 % of Schibsted Trykk AS.
